IF Dundalk Gaels can implement their defensive system and frustrate the Blues attack early on and pick off their scores they will grow in confidence. They will also need to deal with the carnival atmosphere which can be created with reaching the club’s first senior championship final in 25 years. I think this one will go to the wire with both teams cagey from the off, I will go with the Gaels to end the famine and get over the line with a narrow victory.

0-15 2-8

THE start is vital. The Blues will try to kill off the game in the opening quarter, while the Gaels want to be ahead in order to keep their system intact. Can see the Blues with the most skillful attack in the county getting the start they want, by their ability to score long range points – a necessity against a packed defence. I see a more open second half as the Gaels throw more men forward. After an intriguing tactical battle where speedy decision making is a must, the Blues can triumph.

0-12 1-8

I think Gaels could cause a surprise and win a low scoring match. Their greater experience and tried and tested game plan may suffocate the individual flair within the Blues attack. 1-12 0-13

THE Gaels will look to shut-up-shop early, and at the same time, break with the same sort of efficiency that put the Mairtins to the sword. The Blues will need to adopt a patient approach, but they have the capabilities to find the openings. I think the wide spaces at the Gaelic Grounds will benefit the Blues more. Yet the Gaels have shown enough character to suggest they can stay in the game. A goal could make all the difference.

1-9 0-11

THE Gaels will be well drilled under the guidance of Malachy O’Rourke, who will be hoping to get big games from county lads Derek Crilly, James Stewart and Ger McSorley. Add to that the experience of Sean McCann and Jamie Faulkner. They have been getting first half leads and holding on in second half of games. If they can get enough of a lead up I think they may be able to snatch a narrow victory.
