Roseann wasaproud lifelong pioneer

- Roseann Hanlon 1925-2017

ROSEANN Hanlon, who passed away on 11 August, 2017, was a life-long pioneer.

Born in Willville, on 20 September, 1925, Roseann was the only child of Thomas and Bridget Hanlon.

On her mother’s illness, she went to her mother’s parents, Thomas And Rose Finnegan in Ballagan.

Sadly, her mother died when Roseann was just two-years-old. She was then taken care of by her Aunt Margaret.

When Roseann was eight-years-old, Margaret passed away in childbirth. She remained in Ballagan with her uncle Patrick and his wife Bridget.

Bridget, sadly, passed away leaving two young sons, Thomas and Pat. Roseann was fifteen-yearsold at the time and she took care of Thomas and Pat until they grew up.

Thomas married Briege Connolly, and Roseann continued to live with them in Ballagan until they all moved to Dundalk in 1987.

Sadly, Thomas and Briege passed away in 2015, just months apart. This broke Roseann’s heart.

Roseann was a pioneer all her life, and very proud to wear her gold pin. She loved the game of bingo and made many friends through bingo.

Roseann was selfless and cared for others all through her life. She was a people person and had many friends around town. She loved going for a walk and stopping for a chat.

Briege’s brother, Vincent Connolly, had always been a big part of Roseann’s life, but in the last couple of years he played a pivotal role in her support and care.

Roseann had great faith in Vincent and trusted him dearly. He was her rock.

She loved nothing more than sitting and chatting with Vincent and his brother, Eugene, while enjoying her favorite treat of a Kit Kat bar that Vincent always had for her every day.

After reposing at Quinn’s Funeral home, her remains were taken to St Nicholas Church for the funeral mass celebrated by Fr. Bran Slater.

Burial took place afterwards to St. Patrick’s cemetery.
