Clermont Chorale tune up for trip to St Petersburg
LOCAL group Clermont Chorale are busy getting ready for a visit to St Petersburg at the end of the month.
Musical Director Irene Barr explained that the idea for the trip goes back to her time as a teacher in St Louis Secondary School.
‘My association with St Petersburg goes back to 1988 when I struck up a friendship with one of the tour guides when we took a school trip there,’ she says. Zoya Karpovskaya and her family have visited Ireland on a number of occasions since and Irene has travelled to St Petersburg. With Zoya now working full time in the tourism industry, bringing groups from all over the world to the beautiful Russian city. ‘We have put together a very exciting programme of concerts and sight-seeing for Clermont, including three performances, trips to the ballet, opera, palaces and museums, as well as The Hermitage, the most famous of the city’s attractions.
Before they go, Clermont Chorale will perform in Dundalk Golf Club on October 20 at a fundraising event for the Leukaemia Bone Marrow Trust.
