NIGHT TO REWARD STUDENTS EFFORTS
Bush Post Primary School recently held its annual Student Award Ceremony. The school community gathered together to recognise and honour special achievements both academic and altruistic and graduating students from 2017 travelled home from colleges throughout the country to collect their awards.
The guest speaker was Professor Brian MacCraith, President of DCU who captivated the audience with his school memories while also identifying and recognising what industry and third level colleges such as DCU expects from students in the future. He commended the work of the students and staff and was delighted to realise that many graduates from Bush Post Primary were continuing the studies in DCU undertaking programmes such as Biomedical Science, Actuarial Mathematics, Aviation Management, Nursing and Primary School Teaching to name a few.
Representatives and sponsors representing local businesses included Sean T O Reilly, Bellurgan Precision, Oxy Arc, Sheelan Kitchens, CTI Design and Communication, Four Seasons Carlingford, Open Hydro, Mr Tommy Healy, LAN Consultants, Mr Michael Matthews, Anchor Tours & Mrs Eileen O’Connell also attended the event.
Mr Kevin Joyce Principal and Deputy Principal Sinead McDonnell complimented the worthy winners on their effort and commitment in winning these highly coveted awards. Awards included Best Young Citizen, Best in Public Examinations, Best Student in each class, Studentship Awards, Diligence Awards and the Presidents’ Gaisce Awards. The school choir under the direction of Ms Kim Lynch accompanied by the Bush Irish Dance Troup under the supervision of Ms Ann Marie Fox provided the wonderful entertainment to start the event.

2017, Lauren Caldwell winner of the Open Hydro LCA Student of the Year, Olive Thornton Matthews winner of the Mary Burke Style Award, Katie McMahon winner of the Science Award, Andrew O’Neill winner of the Junior Wood Technology Award, David Finnegan winner of the Construction Studies Award, Adam Traynor winner of the Engineering Award, Ciarán Flynn winner of the Vincent Kiernan Memorial Cup, Renée McGlynn winner of the Music & Business Awards, James McArdle Junior PE winner, Niamh Quigley Senior PE winner, Conor Kenny winner of the senior DCG Award, Joseph Connor winner of the Technical Graphics Award, Adam Doris winner of the Art Award, Mary Ryan winner of the Corn Uí Duinnín Award, Martin Hynes winner of the GAA Player of the Year and Patrick Johnson winner of the Technology Award. The Junior Basketball won the Colin Murphy Team of the Year Award and the Principal’s Award winner was Lauren Caldwell.
