50th appearance for Benson Third time lucky in Galway

-

MICHAEL Duffy’s absence from the match day squad on Friday night menat his record of appearing in every league match this season came to an end. The former Derry City winger was the only Dundalk player to have featured in ever league game this season prior to Friday night having made 29 starts and two substitute appearances. The last Dundalk player to feature in every game of a league season was Andy Boyle in 2015. ROBBIE Benson made his 50th league appearance for Dundalk when he started against Bohs on Friday night. It was only the third time the Lilywhites have lost with him in the side for a league match this season following the defeats to Derry City in March and the loss to Cork City in Oriel in June. He did start the defeat to Cork in Turner’s Cross in March but was substituted with an injury early on with the game scoreless at the time. FRIDAY night’s 1-0 loss to

Bohemians at Oriel Park was the 25th league defeat

Stephen Kenny has suffered as Dundalk manager since taking charge at the start of the 2013 season.

An eighth defeat of the season for his side, that surpasses the seven losses he suffered in his debut campaign. Dundalk lost three times in 2014, once in 2015 and six times last year. In 164 league games in charge he has lost just over 15% of matches while his win ratio is 68%. A victory for Dundalk on Friday night against Galway will help the side avoid this season being the lowest points tally of Kenny’s era. Dundalk had 68 points when they finished runners-up to St Patrick’s Athletic in 2013 - they currently sit on 66 points. DUNDALK will be looking to claim their first league win in three attempts when they travel to Eamonn Deacy Park to face Galway Utd on Friday. The Lilywhites have lost on their last two league visits to Terryland, going down 2-1 earlier this season and 1-0 last season. The last league win there came in July 2015 when Dundalk ran out 4-2 winners. In between Dundalk have won away to Galway in both the FAI Cup in 2015 and the EA Sports Cup this season.
