Great Bay Estate bake off
Scoil Mhuire na nGael, Dundalk is the latest primary school to participate in the Maxol Moreish sponsored primary school cookery workshops.
There was much excitement in Ms Nixon & Ms Mc Mahon’s 4th classes as the fifty one students looked forward to swopping their school uniforms for aprons and leaving their classrooms behind for the day to attend cookery workshops in the school hall last week.
The workshops were hosted by Mary Harte from the Kater4kidz Cookery and Nutrition Academy, which specialises in educating children about healthy eating and food skills. The purpose of the workshops is not only to teach children key cookery skills but also to encourage children to look at healthier options when it comes to choosing ingredients.
The children enjoyed a practical workshop, each with their own workstation and were taught numerous techniques including measuring, weighing and cooking on the hob while following recipes for healthy flapjacks and a cheese and broccoli bake.
Martina Rafferty, school principal thanked Moreish Maxol for this wonderful opportunity which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the pupils. She commented “The workshops were very well planned. Great credit to Mary, Siobhán and Naoise the facilitators who were highly organised giving the children the opportunity to develop new skills in a fun learning environment”.
Speaking about the workshop, Mary Harte commented: “I’m thrilled to be part of this fantastic initiative with Moreish at Maxol, which really works to instil confidence in children when it comes to cooking for themselves. We want to encourage children to make the right decisions when choosing foods and to look for the healthier options.”
Caroline Burton, Group Brand Development Manager, the Maxol Group added: “We’re very happy to be part of this initiative. It really shows there is a high level of interest among children to learn more about cooking and food. The initiative ties in perfectly with our redesigned Moriesh brand, which is all about heathier alternatives and fresh, tasty ingredients.”
At the end of the day the fifty one young students were keen to get home with their tray of flapjacks and a dish of Cheese & broccoli bake which no doubt was enjoyed in many local households.
