Sophie Coyle to play Spirit Store

SOPHIE Coyle plays a gig in The Spirit Store on Thursday night with her new band to preview material for her album which is due for release next February.

Described as ‘one of Irish music’s most honest and unique talents’,she has played support for a host of celebrated artists such as legendary Scottish folk singer Dick Gaughan, Mundy, John Spillane, Ger Wolfe, Luka Bloom and Gentry Morris. In 2010 her spine-tingling gothic-folk masterpiec­e, ‘Delirium’ was used in the soundtrack to the horror film ‘Spiderhole’, which was released in Ireland, the UK and the USA.

Originally from Galway, she now lives in Dundalk with her husband Jinx Lennon and their young daughter. s

She has she has played at a number of festivals including the Electric Picnic, Vantastiva­l, Feile na Bealtaine, Fiddler’s Green

In recent years she has been a member of the all-female band ‘ The Periods,’ and points out that the material on her forthcomin­g album will be quite different from their repertoire, with a much greater Irish influence.’

‘I’ve been working on this album for the past three years, in between having a baby, and recorded it in Peter Baldwin’s Blackmount­ain Studio,’ she says.’It’s all my original music and songs.’

For Thursday night’s gig she is joined by fellow local musicians Caroline Whately (bass), Sharon McArdle (keys, harp, accordion) and Conor Taaffe (drums). Support is by Mark Corcoran. Jakula - See No 2
