Champs finding form
THE champions recorded their second successive 3-0 win and their third straight victory to stay in step with the pacesetters Boyne Harps, who coincidentally also were three nil winners on Friday night.
Muirhevnamor who drew with their opponents in the corresponding match away, were never extended in this match, with Mickey O’Kane putting them two nil ahead at the break, with a brace of goals.
The second half Duleek had a few good opportunities to score. Colm Woods failed to hit the target when in space and a gaping goal in front of him as the ball broke to him outside the champions six yard box.
The ever dangerous Barry Kavanagh failed to capitalise on a rare mistake by Chris Caulfield that put him free in the box, but home goalkeeper Michael Cooney swiftly was off his line to smother his shot.
Later Kavanagh worked an opening in the box and claimed a penalty kick as his shot struck a home player on the way out for a corner kick.
However, the champions without unduly exerting themselves, were denied a third goal when Thomas McShane hit a rasper of a shot from outside the 18 yard box that rebounded back off the crossbar and he raced onto to drag his follow up attempt wide from 12 yards.
The third goal did arrive from a customary source, with Billy Smith bursting past three Duleek players into the penalty box and firing a shot inside the near post with under 20 minutes left.. MUIRHEVNAMOR: Michael Cooney, Brian Begley, Adrian Rafferty, Chris Caulfield, Conall Mulvenna ( Steven Smith), Thomas McShane, Gary Clarke (Wayne Robinson), Conor Gorman (Niall Hearty), Mickey O’Kane, Colin Hoey, Billy Smith (Gino Cooney)..
