Aliceworke­din ModernFash­ions forfifty years

ALICE Martin, Ballykelly, Louth, who died recently, worked for 50 years in the well-known drapery store, Modern Fashions, Clanbrassi­l Street, Dundalk.

She passed away peacefully on 4 October, 2017, in the loving care of Castleross nursing home.

Alice was a life-long resident of Ballykelly, and she cared for her mother and father at the end of their long lives there.

She was predecease­d by her parents, James and Maggie Jane; and brother, Jim.

Alice was a dedicated staff member of Modern Fashions for all those years, and is fondly remembered by colleagues and customers.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy; brothers, Tom, Owen Joe, Gerry, Paddy and Anthony; and her many nieces and nephews.

After reposing at her home, Alice’s remains were removed to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Louth, where the funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Rushe, and concelebra­ted by Fr. Sweeney.

A number of gifts symbolisin­g her life were brought to the altar.

Aisling Mathews took up the Legion of Mary handbook. Alice was a dedicated and active member of the society of the Legion of Mary.

Bernie Martin. Alice always enjoyed her family circle, and used every opportunit­y to gather them around her.

Representi­ng her 50 years serving customers in Modern Fashions, a docket book she used was taken up by Cian

Pepper.

Alice spent many hours in her garden, and her speciality was baking apple tarts; and Zoe Donnelly brought forward a bowl of cooking applies from the garden.

The first and second readings were by her godchildre­n, James Martin and Fiona Marron; while the prayers of the faithful were led by nieces, Sonya and Angela Martin.

Alice’s sister, Nancy and brother, Paddy carried the bread and wine to the altar.

Music was provided by soloist, Ruth Kelly; accompanie­d by organist, Paddy Neary.

Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.
