TARA TO SING LEAD WITH NEW OPERA COMPANY

FOLLOWING her successful debut at New York’s world famous Metropolitan Opera House, Ravensdala opera star Tara Erraught has been announced as the lead for the newly formed Irish National Opera’s
production of ‘ The Marriage of Figaro.
Mezzo soprano Tara will appear as Susanna, joining internationally acclaimed Irish singers Máire Flavin (Scottish Opera & Glyndebourne Festival), Aoife Miskelly ( Welsh National Opera & Opera North), veteran star Suzanne Murphy (English National Opera, WNO & Opera North), Ben McAteer (English National Opera & WNO), up-and-coming soprano Amy Ní Fhearrigh, and critically-acclaimed New Zealand bass Jonathan Lemalu singing the title role of Figaro.
This inaugural production by the company of the Mozart’s superb score with its unforgettable arias and hilarious ensemble numbers will be played by Irish Chamber Orchestra with the chorus of Irish National Opera and Peter Whelan conducting.
It will be directed by the celebrated Patrick Mason, with design by Francis O’Connor and lighting design by Paul Keogan.
Sung in Italian with English subtitles the production opens at The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin in April 2018, and will also be performed at the National Opera House Wexford.
This will be a welcome opportunity for Irish fans to see Tara in a full opera production, as her increasingly busy schedule sees her performing on both sides of the Atlantic.
Since wooing audiences with her appearance in ‘ The Tales of Hoffman’ in the Big Apple, Tara has returned to Munich where she is currently singing in the Bayerische Staatsoper’ production of ‘ The Silent Woman’ by Struss.
She makes her Welsh recital debut in St David’s Hall Cardiff when she joins the Welsh National Orchestra with conductor Tomá Hanus for the Wales National Opera International Concert Series on Thursday November 23.
Tara returns to New York in December for her second Met stage performance when she sings Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. This is billed as the Met’s ‘English-language holiday presentation, Richard Jones’s clever production of Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera is based on the Brothers Grimm story’ and runs throughout December and January.
She will also at Carnegie Hall in the Richard Tucker Foundation Gala on December 10.
She will also have recitals in Washington DC, South Carolina and Vancouver, Canada, before she returns to Europe where she makes her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona as Stéphano in ‘Romeo et Juliette’ in February.
