Run a mile for GOAL before Christmas dinner!

- BY OLIVIA RYAN

Time to dust off the running shoes before tucking into the turkey and ham dinner this Christmas day!

The ‘Goal Mile’ returns for its third year this Christmas morning at 10am at Dundalk Institute of Technology’s sports pitches, and all are welcome to work up an appetite before the big feast.

The ‘ Goal mile has become a festive tradition for tens of thousands of people across the country.

The 37th edition of the event, which raises funds for GOAL’s programmes in the developing world, will take place at more than 100 venues in cities, towns and villages across the country.

Participants run, jog or walk a mile and make a donation to the charity and since the inception of the GOAL mile, millions of euro have been raised for the vital work being done by GOAL across the world.

‘ The GOAL Mile has become an integral part of Christmas for thousands of families,’ said Sarah McEneaney, from the organising committee.

She explained that for anyone wanted to take part there will be no registration required, simply turn up at 10am and donate.

There is no training needed as runners, walkers and joggers can take it at their own pace as they make their way around the course.

‘Everyone will receive a Goal Mile certificate for their achievement,’ added Sarah.

Every year huge crowds have gotten behind the festive run

‘Last year seen a huge turn out many in Santa costumes, Christmas jumpers and hats,’ said Sarah.

‘It’s a great way to start your Christmas day celebrations before dinner.’
