Over 250 hampers donated
THE ‘incredible generosity’ of people from Dundalk and beyond emerged in the run up to Christmas as the St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen saw over 250 food parcels donated.
Every year the charity, which is run by St. Patrick’s parish, had helped out a huge number of people in need, providing essential food items for the festive season.
But this year the level of donations exceeded all expectations, with more than 250 food parcels being made available.
‘ The level of generosity has been incredible this year. We really want to thank everyone who has donated,’ said spokeswoman Rose Bailey.
Among those making a large donation of food parcels over the last week were members of the local D-mas-F Kickboxing club and the Crystal Ice Dance group.
Everything from the festive favourites such as boxes of sweets and biscuits, to non perishables and cupboard staples that every family use have been donated towards the Christmas food parcels.
‘ There has been support from so many groups, and schools, and people from other parishes that we have well exceeded any number of food parcels from previous years. We had 250 counted, but that number was likely to go up,’ added Rose
The parcels were handed out on Friday morning before Christmas.
The charitable service also runs the soup kitchen which operates adjacent to St. Patrick’s church.
They provide Christmas dinner for the homeless and needy, and for those who may not have somewhere to go on Christmas day.
Volunteers give up their time to serve a hot meal, and give a little Christmas cheer to those in need.’
