Maria Goretti Foundation thanks for support
THE Maria Goretti Foundation have paid tribute to all who contributed to the success of the Children’s Respite Centre in Lordship during the past year. The recent presentation of the Pride of Place Award to the Foundation acknowledges the fantastic service which is delivered by The Maria Goretti Foundation. This much coveted award is an all-island competition which recognises the work that communities are doing in coming together to shape, change, and improve daily lives in their locality.
The Maria Goretti Foundation was honoured to accept the award on behalf of, and in honour of the community who have showered them with support since they first opened their doors in 2014. The Maria Goretti Foundation is totally focused on providing a state of the art residential facility which delivers invaluable respite care for children with disabilities and life limiting conditions. The Foundation is blessed to have the backing of the excellent staff from Rehabcare who are enthusiastic, highly professional and competent in caring for the children who are left in their care.
The Maria Goretti Foundation would like to express their deepest thanks to all who held fundraising events,with a special thanks to all of the school children who, in raising funds for the Respite Centre, reached out in their own personal way to children with disabilities. August saw the opening of a state of the art sensory garden. Many businesses and local tradesmen came together under the guidance of Mace Group to have the sensory garden built and opened in just three months. Children confined to wheelchairs can now experience for the first time the simple pleasure of a magic roundabout, or savour the exhilaration of fresh sea air against their faces on a swing. These activities which were top of the ‘wish list’ for the children who use the respite centre.
The arrival of Santa to the Respite Centre on December 17th brought the year to a close.
