De La Salle ‘Class Act’

DE La Salle College’s annual talent show ‘Class Act’ returned to the stage in An Táin theatre last week.

The excited audience were wowed as students from every year group took part in a show which featured talented singers, marvellous musicians and energetic dancers.

The show kicked off with ‘Rhapody’. This act, comprised of rhythm and blues, got the audience singing with their cool version of Stand by me by Ben E.King. Next up was some top class singing, as Eoin Johnston sang ‘All along the watchtower’ by Jimi Hendrix, followed by some rock and roll from Shane McCoy and band, with their version of Guns and Roses hit ‘ Sweet Child of Mine’. Padraig Grennan then took to the mic and wowed the audience with a heart warming version of ‘Castle on the Hill’. Neil Murray’s band ‘Blue Cartons’ played country classic ‘Folsem Prison’ bringing a touch of class to the theatre.

Enoch Elewa and singer Pierce Travers delivered a confident rendition of ‘ Through the Valley’, which was a massive hit with the audience! Colm Bellew was next to take to the stage along with ’99 Yellow Balloons’ singing ‘Latch’ by Sam smith. Sean Adegboye won the crowd over with his Groovy rendition of ‘Grandma’s Hands/No Diggity’.

Faoi Gheasa comprised of Donnchadh Hughes on Flute/ Harp, Ronan Byrne on concertina, Oisin Dixon on mandolin/Banjo, Conor Conway on Whistle, Enoch Elewa on Congo, Colm bellew on Guitar, Samuel Ogobamidel­e, kicked off the second half of the show with an exhilarati­ng original compositio­n. Copy and Paste were next to take to the stage, with a powerful version of ‘Somebody to You.’

Next up was ‘Skill Skool’ comprised of Neil Smyth, Ciaran Peelo, Dean Olushola-Peters, Colm Bellew and special guest Caoimhe Magee. Barry Caldwell melted the hearts of the audience with Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’. Fractured Hills followed with a funky performanc­e of ‘Under the Bridge’ by The Red Hot chilli peppers. This was followed by 6th year student Oisin Martin and band ‘ The Strangers’ ‘ Come Together’. Next Iarlaith Carroll and Donnchadh Hughes won the audience’s hearts with their version of ‘ This Christmas.’

Iarlaith Carroll and Donnchadh Hughes won 3rd , second prize went to Faoi Gheasa and 1st prize went to ‘ The Strangers.’
