Festive decorations from old trash
December 2007
FROM snowmen to santas, cribs to angels, pupils from schools throughout Louth display great creativity for the annual Christmas decoration competition organised by the county council.
They re-use materials to make the decorations which are displayed on a tree in county hall.
Entries, while needing to be attractive in design for impact, are primarily judged on the re-use of old materials.
Cathaoirleach of Louth county council, Jimmy Mulroy, with the help of Auntie Litter Bug and her friend, Robbie Recycle, present the prizes.
The overall award goes to 10-year-old Mary O’Hare from Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire in Ardee, who makes a charming Santa Claus, including his glasses with a piece of wire.
Among the local winners are, best class entry: 2nd class, St. Peter’s Dromiskin. Best snowman: Ira Lawlor, St. Joseph’s, Muirhevnamor. Best sleigh: Eilis Ní Searraigh, Gaelscoil Dhún Dealgan.
Best large tree: Charlotte Dunne, Dulargy, Ravensdale. Advent calendar: Ryan Thompson, St. Brigid’s, Dundalk. Best crib/manger: Stephen Woods, Scoil Mhuire nan Gael, Bay Estate.
Best angel: Alex McManus, St. Joseph’s. Best garland: 5th class, Redeemer Girls School, Dundalk. Best Christmas scene: Gianna Nordon. Innovative entry: Carmel Costello, Stonetown, Louth.
