Rotary contributes towards Crumlin hospital project
Dundalk Rotary Club joined in a countrywide fundraising effort for the refurbishment of the parents’ accommodation at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.
Clubs around the country raised money to do p the bedrooms for parents whose children are in-patients in the
Dublin hospital. The hospital provides treatment to 10,000 in-patients a year, with many parents travelling long distances.
The project was spearheaded by Monaghan Rotary and here in Dundalk, Gay Berkeley encouraged the club to get involved as many families from the town have availed of the life-saving treatment provided by Crumlin hospital.
Dundalk Rotary Club donated €1,500 from money raised at the Shove Tuesday breakfast morning in the Crowne Plaza for the refurbishment of one of the bedrooms and their sponsorship is acknowledged by a plaque which was erected in the room.
The project involved clearing out the rooms, fitting windows, doors, wooden floors, furniture and redecorating each room.
‘A team of twenty carpenters went to the hospital and did all the woodwork as volunteers,’ says Gay.
Rotarians from around the country were invited to attend a ceremony marking the upgrade of the parent accommodation unit and to see for themselves the work which had taken place.
