Willow Grove flooding

-

A call for traffic calming measures to be installed at Scoil Eoin Baiste as a matter of urgency due to the volume of traffic assessing two nursing homes and three schools in the area was made by Cllr Maeve Yore.

She wanted to speed restrictions and solar powered signage in place.

Cllr Edel Corrigan pointed out that the matter had been raised previously and traffic surveys had been carried out.

The motion was also supported by Cllr Conor Keelan. FLOODING at the entrance to the Willow Grove estate on the Carrick Road has got worse after works were carried out by a private developer, Fine Gael councillor Maria Doyle stated at last week’s meeting of the Municipal District of Dundalk.

She wanted to know what the local authority could do in a situation where a private developer has carried out works and the result is that a bad situation has been made worse.

She noted that there had been a problem with flooding in the area for a long time but it was now worse than previously. CLLR Peter Savage asked for an up to date report on the council’s plans for the remediation of the Newry Road landfill site, noting that the landfill had been closed for many years and that there were many sporting clubs which could use the land when it becomes available.

He was told that it is currently being flared for gas under a licence from the EPA and that the amount of gas is decreasing.

There is no provision in the current budget for a scheme but the next stage would be to carry out a report to see what can be done.
