Welcome funding for Boyneside trail

-

THERE was a broad welcome for a grant totalling €92,628 which has been made available to the Boyneside Trail.

Louth County Council are set to receive the funding to upgrade and improve the established trail.

The funding is part of the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme, and is part of a €2.2 million allocation for 32 rural recreation projects nationally, designed to to improve walking trails, greenways and other recreational amenities.’

‘ This is fantastic news for the local community who already make great use of the trail and will certainly improve the chances of the trail eventually growing and expanding,’ said Deputy O’Dowd.

‘We as a government are committed to supporting locally-based recreational projects that will benefit and encourage people to experience the beauty of the local environment and of course boost tourism, which will benefit our local economy.’

‘ This is a project that I have supported and campaigned on behalf of for some time now and I would like to thank all the Boyneside Trail Committee members for their relentless work to date on the project.’

The maintenance of our trails, greenways and recreational amenities is hugely important for tourism across Ireland. 2017 was a record year for tourism, with overseas visitors up by 3.7% to the end of November, and we will endeavour to keep this trend going.’
