DOG BITES MILKMAN

January 1988

-

A Dundalk dog owner, whose Alsatian bit a milkman, is warned in the circuit court if there are any further complaints about the animal, a district court order for the destruction of the dog will be affirmed.

Judge Patrick Smith then adjourned the case.

The dog owner is appealing the ruling of the lower court of 16 September last, which results from an incident the previous 18 April.

The milkman says he is at the appellant’s front door, collecting money, when the Alsatian comes out from the house and bites him on the arm.

He has the wound dressed, and receives a tetanus injection. He agrees the dog is normally fenced in.

A garda who investigates the matter, says the owner of the dog claims the victim teases the animal continuously.

Two other people subsequently make complaints, the officer continues.

However, the circuit court judge gives the appellant a chance. DUNDALK’S Eurovision hopeful Dawn Martin gets her first taste of the limelight on the Pat Kenny Show, and is hoping for more.

She is through to the Irish final on 8 March to select a song for Europe.

Dawn (22) gets her big break when songwriter Gerry Morgan hears her perform at a live open-air performance for BBC Radio in Cooley Distillery.

He pens ‘Is Always Over Now’ for Dawn to sing.

‘In the first place, the competition is a songwriters’ competition, and not a singers’ competition, but when the eight finalists are chosen, it is down to the singing as well,’ she explains.

‘We first recorded the song so Gerry could send the entry away, and when it was selected for the final, and Gerry asked me, I had no problem saying yes.’

Dawn’s backing singers are Karen Carroll, and Karen’s sister, Elaine Matthews.

Reflecting on her Pat Kenny Show appearance, she says Karen and Elaine are brilliant.

‘ They really keep me calm throughout the day, even though it is their first time on television too, and they are as nervous as me,’ says Dawn who is from Toberona.
