Night of the opera planned at Glyde

- By HUBERT MURPHY

THE Glyde Inn in Annagassan hosted another sold out night at the Opera recently which once again proved to be a huge success.

Those in attendance donned their finest gladrags and enjoyed a mouthwatering menu which accompanied the star performance from local operatic stars, Bartone Gavan and Soprano Nicola Ring, who live in Carlingford, County Louth.

This time they preformed sets from many of the famous Italian operas including Puccini, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and Verdi with the menu on the night complementing the Italian theme.

Dr Gavan Ring is a multiple national and international prizewinner, having been awarded second prize at the 2015 Concorso Lirico Internatzionale di Portofino in Italy and second prize at the 2013 Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition.

Gavan’s wife Nicola is a Lyric Soprano who graduated with a First Class honours degree in Music Performance from the RIAM studying with Dr Veronica Dunne and Mary Brennan.

She has won numerous prizes at Feis Ceoil and was named as the National Concert Hall’s Young Musician of the Future.

She made her debut at Glyndebourne Festival Opera as the second fairy in Purcell’s ‘ The Fairy Queen’.

The Glyde Inn plans to host more opera nights and other gastronomic events promoting local produce in the future.
