DUNDALK HOME FARM 2 1

DUNDALK Girls took on Home Farm in the MGL 16A division in Oriel Park on Sunday and with the visitors sitting in second place in the league players and management were expecting a really hard game to kick off the new year.

And so it proved as both midfields battled to take control of the game in the opening stages.

Home Farm took the lead in the 10th minute after breaking through the home defence.

Dundalk soon responded and in the 17th minute after Aoife Byrne closed down a Home Farm defender as she tried to clear, the ball fell to Seona Halligan who lobbed the keeper to level the game.

It was a well deserved equaliser and it remained very tight throughout the first-half.

Dundalk suffered a major blow when goalscorer Halligan was forced to retire with an injury and soon after they lost Andrea Stewart through ilness.

The second half started well for Dundalk with their midfield taking more control and creating more and more opportunities.

In the 70th minute, Dundalk attacked the Home Farm goal and when the ball fell kindly for Katie Moran on the edge of the box she drilled the ball into the net.

Again it was a well deserved goal for the home side.

Dundalk had a number of opportunities to extend their advantage further, with Ayo Adesanya, Caoimhe Crichton and Sophia McCabe all going close.

And the defence held out comfortably at the other end to secure a deserved win.
