Mariewasagreatmother, homemakerand neighbour

- Marie Smythe 1936-2017

THE death has taken place of Marie Smythe, Ard Easmuinn, a life-long resident of Dundalk.

She passed away peacefully in the great care of the palliative team at the Louth county hospital, on 20 December, 2017.

A daughter of the late Micheal and Ellen Woods, she was brought up in Park Drive, and attended the nearby Friary School.

Marie worked for many years as a photo technician for Byrne’s photography in Quay Street.

She married Eric Smythe in 1959, and the couple moved into their new house in Ard Easmuinn, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Marie was a great mother, homemaker and neighbour; and was unassuming in nature and selfless when it came to the needs of her children.

In her younger days, she enjoyed baking immensely, and in later years took great joy in her grandchildren, and all the young additions to her extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eric; sister, Kitty and brother, Tommy.

Marie is sadly missed by her sons, Roy, Paul and Eric; daughters-in-law, Justine and Clodagh; grandchildren, Alan, Leah, Shannon and Aaron; brother, Jimmy; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Having reposed at Dixon’s funeral home on Friday, 22 December, her remains were removed the following day to the Church of the Redeemer for the funeral Mass at 11am, which was celebrated by Fr. Paul Montague.

Music was provided by singer, Deirdre Morgan.

Burial took place afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

The Month’s Mind Mass will take place on 28 January, 2018, at 11.30am in the Church of the Holy Redeemer.
