Setanta Choir celebrate 40 years with gala concert

DUNDALK’S Setanta Choir is busy preparing for a special gala concert on Sunday February 25th in St Patrick’s Cathedral to mark its 40th anniversar­y.

The mixed voice choir will be joined by the RTE Concert Orchestra and guest soloists Aileen Coyle, soprano, Sharon Carty, mezzo soprano, Eugene Ginty, tenor, and Christophe­r Cull, bass/baritone, well as local violinist Jennifer Murphy.

The conductor for this special concert is David Brophy, who is one of Ireland’s leading conductors, best known or his recent tv appearance­s with The High Hopes Choir and Choir of Ages.

The carefully chosen programme features orchestral and choral pieces which are bound to delight the audience They include The Coronation Mass by Wolfgang Amaeus Mozart in 1779, and the lofty setting of St Patrick’s with its wonderful acoustics will be the perfect venue to enjoy this bright and uplifting music.

Setanta will also performed excerpts from ‘ The Peacemaker­s’ by Karl Jenkins which they performed five years ago. As a result of that concert, Setanta was to perform with other choirs from around the world in a special performanc­e of ‘ The Peacemaker­s’ in Carnegie Hall, New York, to mark Martin Luther King Day.

The Brickx Club Dundalk is hosting its Tesco Marathon fund raiser for Temple Street Children’s Hospital on Saturday from 11am to 6pm with Lego exhibition and play area. Canadian comedian Glenn Wool is the special guest at the Juicebox Comedy Club in the Spirit Store on Thursday night. A big hit on the Internatio­nal circuit, he performs to huge crowds in Singapore, Holland, Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, and the UK, and is a regular TV face.
