Women’s Aid thank fundraiser Sinead

-

THE fundraising work of Dundalk woman Sinead Crilly was praised by Women’s Aid, after she presented a cheque €3,275 to the charity last week.

Sinead had organised a series of events on ‘Women’s Christmas’, Janaury 6th to raise funds for Dundalk Women’s Aid.

Among these were the ‘Walk a Mile In Her Shoes’ campaign, which saw men take to the Marshes Shopping Centre in high heel shoes!

‘ The event really was great for awareness raising too,’ said a spokeswoman.

‘ The guys all wore Women’s Aid t-shirts on the day.

That evening Sinead had also arranged for bucket collections in a number of pubs in town. ‘We are very grateful to the businesses who provided spot prizes for raffles on the night, and to the pubs for their support.’

This was the first fund raising event of 2018 for Dundalk Women’s Aid, who are currently in the process of drawing up plans for a move to a refuge facility on the Newry Road.

The spokeswoman told the Argus that designs for the project are being worked on, and it is hoped to submit a planning application to Louth County Council before the end of the month. The project will involve construction work to provide additional accommodation on the premises.

‘We do intend to host a public information event once plans are finalised.’ They are also hoping to set up a fundraising committee, anyone interested in taking part can contact Women’s Aid on 042 9333245.
