Concerns about paths at graveyard

-

WALKWAYS inside Dowdallshill cemetery are in a ‘diabolical condition’ councillors heard at the February monthly meeting.

Cllr. Peter Savage said concerns had been raised about the paths around graves, which were ‘mucky and wet.’

‘ The walkways are in a diabolical condition. But it would take very little money to fix them,’ said Cllr. Savage.

Cllr. Conor Keelan agreed adding that there were concerns raised about people going to funerals in wet weather.

He said he had raised the point before about setting up a sub committee to deal with matters concerning the graveyard.

This could include councillors, along with clergy and local people, said Cllr. Keelan, and could deal with issues as they arise.

He agreed ‘it wouldn’t take a lot of work’ to fix the current issues with the walkways.

Cllr. Keelan also highlighted the condition of some roads in the Newry road area, saying that he had called for traffic calming measures.

Concerns were raised about the road surfaces in McEntee Avenue and Pearse Park.

Chairman, Cllr. John McGahon replied that he had received a notification of an intention to have these two streets included in the roads programme for 2019.

Senior Engineer, Vincent Toner told councillors were currently being made for the next roads programme, and asked that they submit details of any areas they felt needed attention.

Meanwhile, the condition of roads after works are carried out by either Irish Water or internet service providers was once again raised.

Cllr. Maeve Yore asked about funds that may be held as deposit by Louth Conty Council, and if these could be ring fenced to repair roads after works are completed.
