Setback for Rock

-

DIVISION 1 ROCK CELTIC 0 ENFIELD 3

ROCK suffered a bad setback in their push to regain their premier division status at the first attempt with a decisive defeat on Friday night on their home ground at Sandy Lane.

There was no arguments that the visitors who have strengthened their side were the better side, making the running from the start as Rock struggled to mount any meaningful attacks.

It was no more than Enfield deserved when they went in front after 20 minutes as the play was largely concentrated in the home half.

Ironically though Rock were on the attack when they lost the ball, and Enfield broke forward swiftly from near their 18 yard box and finished clinically with Rock players struggling to recover ground.

Rock were missing four players for various reasons, and made a raft of changes during the game but to no real effect, and Enfield scored twice in the second half in the space of 15 minutes, the first after the hour, to wrap up the points.

Rock have a quick chance to make amends for this loss, meeting their conquerors again this Sunday in a tough run-in with Enfield two points behind them now in fourth place.

This is one of four games they have to play away, with only one at home, in their final five fixtures.

They have to travel to Kells-Blackwaterr, Navan Town and Kentstown , with the latter also to face at home and they are in the running for promotion also in fifth place.

ROCK: Gary Lennon, Liam McDonnell (Chris Berrills), Oran Duffy, Shane O’Callaghan, Paddy Reilly, Liam Keenan (Danny Kerr), Paul Gore, Brendan Rogers (Sean Matthews), Aidan Curtin, David Ward, Des McKeown (Kitzito Ekewuewe)
