Bellurgan hit for six by Ardee

-

THE rain and snow caused this game on Sunday to be switched to Ardee, and the home side took the opportunity to ease their relegation worries with an emphatic 6-0 victory. They remain second from bottom but with only a point and three points respectively separating them and the two teams ahead with three games in hand.

However, Bellurgan had reason to contend the pitch was like their own not fit for play, especially with snow also falling again during the game and adding to the difficult under foot conditions.

They definitely by the finish wished the game hadn’t taken place as former player Darryn Gaynor and his more famous brother Ross Gaynor played a telling part with their goals in inflicting the heaviest defeat of the season on the Peninsula side.

They were without key players, but only trailed by a goal at the break. The concession of a second early after the break signalled a collapse that wasn’t helped with influential defender Ray Finnegan being sent-off in the closing stages.

However, the losers performed badly in defence, and were especially frail when Ardee counter attacked. BELLURGAN: Robert Arthur, Stephen Finnegan, Diarmuid Murphy, Ray Finnegan, Emmet Rogan, Daniel O’Connor, Keith Finnegan, Gavin Gregory, Daniel McDonnell (Declan Sharkey), Owen Armstrong. Tadhg O’Connor. Other sub used Shane O’Brien.
