Brave Dundalk girls fall to leaders

THE Dundalk FC U16 Girls squad travelled to Archerstown to take on league leaders Ashbourne in the MGL league at the weekend.

The weather was a big factor early on with high winds and after losing the toss Dundalk started against the elements.

Within 10 minutes the Dundalk girls found themselves one-nil down.

Dundalk struggled to gain possession as the half progressed and Ashbourne nabbed a lucky second goal on the half hour mark after the ball bounced in the box and the wind lifted the ball into the net.

After this Dundalk took a grip and advanced towards goal but unfortunately with no joy.

In the second half Dundalk gained little advantage with the wind easing but they pressed and pressed looking to get back into the game. Unfortunately the goal didn’t come and it ended with a 2-0 defeat.

The Dundalk girls can take a great deal from this game as they have not played or trained together for the last two weeks with the pre-Junior Cert taking place. They defended well and with some new midfielders playing their first full game they can take a lot of heart from the performance.
