Maddy is top of the pots

-

A SCINTILLATING display of break-building by Maddy Hoey unfortunately proved in vain for his Team Green in the Dundalk Snooker League last week.

In the first frame of the opening match, Hoey churned out breaks of 42, 38 and 26 in what was easily the performance of the season thus far, leaving Keith Morris in his seat for the majority of the opening frame.

But Hoey’s fine display proved to be as good as it got for the Greens, with Liam Johnston shaking off a resilient Justin McArdle to level proceedings.

The Blue momentum continued in frame three as Paddy Hayes pulled off a super full length black to see off Patsy Muckian.

The doubles clash pitted Hayes and Johnston against McArdle and Muckian and the Blues pair proved too strong, firing their team to the top of the table with a great 3-1 win.

Three singles wins saw Team Yellow take the spoils with a frame to spare against Team Brown in the second match of the night.

Tiernan Mallon kicked off what turned out to be a dominant display from Team Yellow following a nip and tuck battle with David J Mcardle.

Brendan O’Hanlon followed up with a fine win over Aaron Callan to earn the Yellows at least a draw.

But maximum points were secured in the third frame as Stephan O’Hanlon defeated Mickey kelly in convincing fashion.

Team Brown were playing for pride in the doubles match and Stephan mcbride and Mark Laverty ensured theur avoided a whitewash with a convincing win over Anthony Fee and Patrick McArdle.

The final match of the night saw Team Pink maintain their unbeaten record in a 2-2 stalemate against Team Black.

In the opener Alan Thompson beat Gerry Rodgers to get Team Black off to a flyer, but it was all square after the next frame as Ken Byrne missed a deciding black, allowing Mickey Ralph back in to snatch the win.

Joe McEnaney regained Team Black’s lead defeating Dominic O’Connor in the next frame.

The outcome rested on the final frame as Team Pink’s O’Connor and Ralph took on Shane Gorham and Tomas Geroc and a tense and fascinating tussle. Experience was key in the end as Ralph and O’Connor secured a fine point.

There will no action this week as Valentine’s night falls on Wednesday, so the league will resume on February 21s. Team Blue Team Pink Team Yellow Team Black Team Green Team Brown P 4 4 4 4 4 4 W 2 1 2 1 1 1 D 1 3 0 2 1 1 L 1 0 2 1 2 2 +/- 2 2 -2 0 0 -2 Pts 7 6 6 5 4 4
