5,000 attend motorcycle show in DkIT

February 1998

MORE than 5,000 interested visitors flock over three days to the Dundalk Motor Cycle Show at the Regional Technical College.

As crowds converge on the various stands, the event is as successful as he inaugural show in November, 1995.

Consequently, there is every chance the or- ganisers will go again in a couple of years’ time, despite all the hard work involved.

Nevertheless, the huge effort put in this time pays off. Those in attendance have plenty to occupy themselves with.

One of the most popular exhibits is the ‘ Talk To Me’ stand which features James Bond’s BMW, and shows clips from the movie, ‘ Tomorrow Never Dies’.

Agent 007 is not present, but top motorcyclists Robert Dunlop and Dwyane McCracken are, and they take plenty of time to talk to the enthusiasts, and do an interview for 2FM, broadcasting on one of the days.

Irish and UIster Moto Cross Champion Sean Kelly, from Kilcurry, is also much in demand when he drops in.

The show attracts many people from out of town, among them bikers from Sligo who take a spin to Dundalk.

Of course, there is a big input from local bikers, while ‘ The Interceptor’, a huge creation of a robot on a motorcycle, generates plenty of comment, placed as it is in the foyer.

The exhibiters express satisfaction as to how things go, which is always a good indicator of an event’s success.

All of the proceeds from the 1995 show are used to restore the old school in Bellurgan as a community centre, and money raised on this occasion will go towards furnishing the same building.
