£185,000 FOR THREE SITES
February 1998
A further indication of soaring land prices is the sale at auction of three adjoining c. 0.5 acre sites in Carlingford for £185,000.
It puts the price of an acre of land there at more than €120,000.
This comes hot on the heels of a two-bedroom detached bungalow, ‘St. Jude’s’ on the Dublin Road, going for £112,000 at auction.
Up to the £150,000 mark, there are a number of bidders for the Carlingford sites, but then it is down to two, before they are knocked down to a buyer from Northern Ireland.
A new sewerage scheme about to start is going to push Carlingford prices up further.
Meanwhile, local auctioneer Philip Gunne says Dundalk prices are only catching up on similar areas.
‘We’re still miles behind Drogheda and everywhere else in terms of value, and it is really only now starting to percolate up here.’ THE curtain goes up on Shelagh Youth Club’s production of ‘Godspell’.
Dundalk town hall is the venue for the popular rock opera.
The Shelagh group enlists the services of talented producer/director, Brian Merriman, whose productions of ‘Godspell’ have won numerous awards throughout Ireland.
Gearóid Grant, who has many relatives in the Hackballscross area, is musical director.
He is conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra, and resident conductor of the Junior Irish Youth Orchestra.
Derek Madden is choreographer, and challenges the enthusiasm and energy of the cast into some exciting dance movement.
The role of Jesus is played by Paul Monaghan.
The cast members are Michael Aherne, Anna Boyle, Hugh Cooney, Blinne Daly, Christie Evans, Ann-Marie Farrell, Brian Farrell, Margaret Finnegan, Amanda Garvey, Aisling Green, Joan Hoey, Pat Howe, Colm Luckie, Maurice Luckie, Eamon McQuaid, Fiona McCoy, James McArdle, Siobhán McCreesh, Gerry Moley, Seán Moley, Joan Nugent, Theresa Nugent, Maureen Rodgers, Briege Wills.
