Acclaimed artist to lead workshops in Gallery

-

THE acclaimed Irish artist Lisa Fingleton brings her latest exhibition ‘Holding True Ground’ to The Basement Gallery, An Tain Arts Centre/

To mark the opening of the exhibition, which has been created with the gallery’s former use as a prison in mind, she will lead a practical workshop for students on Friday morning at 11am. This will focus on drawing from life through line but also exploring the possibility of digital line drawing from the imagination.

LISA will talk about ‘ The 30 Day Local Food Challenge’ project at 5pm on Saturday ahead of the exhibition opening at 7pm.

An award winning multi media artist and film maker, Lisa is passionate about the artist’s

responsibility to be a force for change.

SHE lives and works on a 20 acre organic farm in Co Kerry, creating art and growing food. I believe in the power of art to create the change we wish to see in the world. Now more than ever, I feel we need to hold a vision for a more inclusive, creative and sustainable world, she says. The exhibition is simultaneously funny and deadly serious, as she presents a sumptuous, visual feast of drawings, found objects, documentary and immersive installations. The work responds to the specificity of the gallery as an ex prison and articulates connections between freedom and food. 2

The life and music of the great Jim Reeves will be celebrated in a concert with Al Grant and Isla Grant in the Carrickdale Hotel on Friday, February 16. Tickets €30.
