Earlystartfor Parade

-

Blackrock’s Saint Patrick’s Day parade will start at 1.30pm on Saturday week. The time has been brought forward from later in the afternoon so as not to coincide with the Big Rugby match who is being televised.

Ireland meet England at Twickenham with Ireland perhaps going for the Grand Slam, and the game regardless will be the focus of attention in the country on the day given the rivalry between the countries.

The same arrangements will otherwise apply, with the parade following the normal route through the village, starting at Cocklehill and will end on Sandy Lane. Local postman Tom Gaskin will once again act as Grand Master, and lead the parade.

The theme of “Coastal Carnival” has been attached to the parade, with the organisers looking to create a riot of colour and music along the main street.

Those attending are invited to get out their sun glasses, sea creatures, sand, samba and dancing shoes to make the 2018 parade one to remember.

A team of judges will adjudicate the: Best Overall Float (based on the best creative interpretation of theme)

Best Impact Float (the largest numbers and physical size of Float)

Best Creative Noise Float (making your own sound, think Carnival & Seaside)

Best Colourful Float (think Seaside & Carnival)

Each participant group or float will be required to lead with a LARGE banner with their title. This is to help the judges and ensure they don’t give out the wrong prize! Winners will be announced from the stage at the end of the parade.

Once participants register they will be assigned a numbered position for the parade. All are asked to turn up a half an hour before the e start.
