Women’s Aid launch ‘One Billion Rising’

-

WOMEN’S Aid Dundalk are excited to be part of One Billion Rising campaign again this year.

The campaign is culminating in a ‘Break the Chain’ of violence event in the Market Square this Friday, March 16th.

A spokeswoman for Dundalk Women’s Aid explained ‘One billion refers to the UN statistic that 1 in 3 women globally, will be raped or beaten in their lifetime. That’s one billion women and girls.

Every year people rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our communities and the world what one billion looks like.

We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We are rising to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one that calls for system change to end violence against women and girls.’

‘Women’s aid Dundalk are inviting everyone, men women and children to come along and be part of this powerful campaign and dance together to ‘Break the Chain.’

All are welcome to go along and join in the dance at Market Square, Dundalk on Friday 16th March at 2pm.
