NIALL’S HOME OF THE YEAR
ARCHITECT DESIGNED DREAM HOME
DUNDALK born Architect Niall Henry saw his family’s Dublin home become a finalist in the RTE Home of the Year TV programme which aired last week.
Architect Niall, who is co - owner of the ‘Dublin Design Studio’ lives with his wife Emma and their three children in a contemporary home he designed in Dublin.
The house sits alongside the homes of his wife’s sister and brother also designed by Niall.
Having reached the final of the popular RTE show, Niall explained that he ‘ had to work within the constraints of a very narrow site and wanted to push the boundaries in design.’
The impressive design saw large windows being fitted throughout the ground floor of their open plan living area. Niall added that he decided to ‘step up the first floor and pushed it a metre and half back off the ground floor level so that there is an overhang above the side garden.’
He explained that privacy was important in a busy suburban area and the rooms upstairs look back into each other.
Niall is originally from Ballybarrack on the Ardee Road and is a former Dundalk Gaels GFC footballer, who played in the 1992 Louth Senior Football final.
He has gone on to establish a hugely successful career with the company Dublin Design Studios.
The firm has been behind some iconic developments over the last decade and more, and most notably won an international design competition in the early noughties to build the then proposed ‘ U2 Tower in Dublin.’
