A 59-year-old man who came up with €500 compensati­on for a garda whose lip he cut, has had a charge of resisting the officer in the course of his duty struck out.

At a previous hearing, Joseph Quigley, 29 McSwiney Street, Dundalk, admitted the offence at O’Hanlon Park, Dundalk, on 1 March, 2017.

Evidence was given he struck the garda in the face, cutting his lip.
