Since Christmas the Blackrock ICA guild has had some great meetings. They held a Beetle Drive, a talk and demonstration on the use of herbs and spices as well as the usual craft evenings.

Preparations were made for International Women’s Day on March 8th. For the third year Blackrock, as part of Louth Federation, took part in #iyarnbombdundalk when the Market Square was brightened by the addition of knitted and crocheted decorations. This year the Yarn bomb went nationwide with many different Federations joining in to raise awareness of women’s issues and to advertise the Irish Country Women’s Association.

After all the hard work many of the members attended a reception in the An Tain Theatre and toured the exhibition “Holding True Ground” by Lisa Fingleton to mark the day itself. They also got to enjoy a performance of “Lives in Translation” by Kabosh Theatre.

The guild was fortunate to receive funding again from LMETB for a tutor to come to the Guild to teach a craft. This time the guild chose jewellery making and the classes will be held for four weeks into the spring.

The guild meets on a Wednesday evening in the Community Centre at 8pm. To find out more about the guild click onto their Facebook page black rock lout hi ca.

It also runs a Keep Fit class on a Wednesday morning at 10.30am each week to which all over 55s are welcome.
