Olivewas extremely sociable

- Olive Hughes 1949-2018

OLIVE Hughes, Bóthar na Feirme, Blackrock Road, Dundalk, died peacefully in Louth County Hospital on 11 February, 2018.

Olive hailed from Fatima in Dundalk and was a well-known and an extremely sociable and gregarious person, always full of chat for whoever she would meet on her almost daily excursions into town.

She was the beloved wife of Paddy, and loving mother to Colin and grandmother of Rachel, Ewan, Ben, and sister of Majella Noone, Vera Leavy and the late Elsie O’ Hanlon, Noel Hoey and Patricia Ellis.

Olive lived her entire life in Dundalk, 37 years of which she spent in Ladywell Square where she moved to in 1978. During that time, she was at the heart of that little community, surrounded by friends and neighbours, getting involved in the organising of activities such as the local sports day.

She moved to Bóthar Na Feirme in February 2015 to what she affectionately called her ‘ little palace’. But no matter where she lived, the home was always alive with family and friends, and she took as much joy from that, as everyone in her company did.

Olive passed away in the care of the nurses from the Louth Hospital hospice service after a short illness. Her family would like to thank them for making her final days as comfortable as humanly possible.

Her passing is deeply regretted by her husband, son, grandchildren, sisters, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

She reposed at her home from the Sunday evening and was removed on the Tuesday morning to the Church of the Holy Family.

Fr Cormac McNamara celebrated Requiem Mass. The Readings were given by her nephews, David Hughes and Stephen Leavy.

The Offertory gifts were taken up by her grandsons, Ben and Ewan Hughes.

Son, Colin read a eulogy after communion and the music was performed beautifully by Ruth Kelly, with her final song being ‘ Time to Say Goodbye’.

Burial took place afterwards in Saint Patrick’s cemetery.

The Month’s Mind Mass is on Sunday, 18 March next at 11am in the Holy Family Church.
