- John Mulligan 1957-2018

JOHN Mulligan, 443 Ashling Park, Dundalk, died peacefully on 16 February, 2018 in the Cardiac Care Unit of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, surrounded by his loving family and great friend Barney McKeown.

John helped his father John set up a well-known family business, JP Mulligan Coal Merchants, and worked in the local A1 Taxi firm where he earned great respect from everyone that used the service.

He occupied his leisure time racing pigeons at an earlier stage in life and was a member of the local pigeon club.

He also had a passion for horses and would spend hours on end in the fields with them. He enjoyed meeting up with all the horse men at different events throughout Ireland.

By nature, John was a very private individual, but had a wide circle of loyal friends who held him in great esteem.

That loyalty was demonstrated by the very large number of people who paid their respects on the day of his burial, called to the house and attended the church service, for which his family is very grateful.

John was born and raised in the Fatima area of town and attended the local national school.

At a young age, he married his childhood sweetheart Margaret (nee Newberry), who hailed from Marian Park. Together they raised six children at their home in Ashling Park.

Daughter, Debbie tragically died in 1991, and John’s father, John passed away in 2003

John’s family are forever grateful to the nurses, doctors and staff of the CCU in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; daughters, Karen ( Woodview Park), Christina (Cork), Nicola (Ashling Park); sons, Declan (Hackballscross), John (Ashling Park); mother, Phyllis (nee Grey) Tateetra; brothers, Thomas and Eamonn (Dixie); sisters, Patricia Griffen, Bernadette Markey, Annette Tiernan and Sharon Brennan; son in-law, Gavin; daughter in-law, Trisha; grandchildren, great-grandson, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

The Month’s Mind Mass for John will take place on Sunday, 18 March next at 11.30am in the Church of the Holy Redeemer.
