LOUTH BOWLS

The local bowls club recently held their annual open pairs tournament and again it turned out a complete success. The bowling was of the highest standard. The final was held on Saturday 24th February.

The eight pairs who qualified during the week were here to do battle for the Peggy Lambe memorial Cup and after a great nights bowling the winners were Gerry McCabe Cooley and Niall Hand Corduff. The host club had three pairs in the last eight and we send congratula­tions to Anne Marie Duff and Mary Larney Patsy Duff and Andrew Meegan. Paul and Andrea Duff. The club would like to thank their sponsors and all those who donated spot prizes on the finals night.

They would thank all who played in the tournament and a special word of thanks goes to the kitchen staff who looked after everyone so well during the week especially Mary and Sheila and also all the members of the club who worked so hard in making this another very successful tournament The club also would like to congratula­te Paul Duff who is a member of the Oriel Zone team which reclaimed the All Ireland title in Killyman Co. Tyrone last Saturday when they defeated a strong North West team from Derry in the final in what was a very tight game winning by eight shots. Paul and the team go forward to represent Ireland in the top teams competitio­n which will be held in Newry in December where they will face the English and Welsh champions. We wish them all the best.

On the local scene the club had a win in the league on Sunday when they defeated Greenhills in Drogheda and then on Tuesday evening they defeated Acint in the Oriel Zone 6’s knock out competitio­n.

VINTAGE CLUB

The Louth Abbey vintage club are busily preparing for their St. Patrick’s Day parade which commences at 12.30pm starting at McCooeys lounge. Their will be prizes for the best floats.

The morning commences with breakfast in the community centre fro 10.00am. Breakfast will cost €10 special reductions for children ,under 5 free. Then after the parade their will be a balloon race fundraiser at the village green outside McCooeys with all funds going towards the upgrade and improvemen­t works for the community centre Louth. Tickets are currently on sale for this race. Lets hope the weather stays kind for the day and that the whole community comes out and enjoys themselves.

MASS TIMES

Please note Masses for St. Patricks weekend are as follows. St. Patricks day vigil Mass Friday 16th at 7.30pm St. Patrcks day Mass 10.00am Louth only. Saturday 17th Sunday vigils Mass 7.30pm.and Sunday Masses as usual in both Churches.

SUDDEN DEATH

The whole area was stunned and deeply saddened by the tragic death of Ann McArdle Tully. Ann was a lovely person and a very artistic person. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and this was very much in evidence at the large crowd who attended her wake and the funeral Mass in The Church Of The Immaculate Conception Louth last Friday.

We send our deepest sympathy to her husband Colm. sons Caomhan Garbhan Mother, brother sister Mother In Law Brothers in Law sisters in law extended family and friends . She will be sadly missed.
