PADRAIG Moley was the hero for Naomh Malachi as the Courtbane men booked a place in the Kevin Mullen Shield semi-final in dramatic fashion.

The midfielder landed a late point as his side saw off the challenge of Westerns in well-contested encounter at Courtbane on Saturday evening.

Unlike the other two quarter-finals played over the weekend, the result of this game was in doubt right up to the final whistle but in the end it was Moley’s late strike that proved decisive.

The home side had the better of the first half and landed four points to lead by 0-4 to 0-1 at half time with the Westerns response coming from a Jack Ogle free.

The Reaghstown side fought back in the second half and the game was in the balance but it was Moley who kicked the decisive score to give the Mals victory.

Dowdallshill 1-13 Westerns 2-12 CIAN Callan fired in a hat-trick to help St Kevins secure a place in the Mullen Shield semi-finals with victory over John Mitchels at Darver on Saturday evening.

In a game which the Philipstown side dominated from the opening whistle, Callan was undoubtedly the star of the show in an attacking sense as he finished with a personal tally of 3-8.

The first half was very much a case of one-way traffic as the Kevins scored at will, with Callan claimed two goals as his side led by 2-14 to 0-3 at the break.

It was a difficult outing for the Mitchels as little went their way, however but they did battled gamely and grabbed a consolation goal through Stephen Coyle in the second half.

However, the evening most certainly belonged to Callan and he completed his hat-trick after the break to help complete a comprehensive win.
