Jimbecame anavid gardener

- Jim Dullaghan 1931-2018

THE death occurred of James (Jim) Dullaghan, 4 Lisheen Park, Knockbridge, on 14 February, 2018, aged 86.

After leaving school, he worked with local farmers. He then worked in GEC, Dunleer before beginning a long career in C.R.V.

He finished his employment with Caraher & Ward when C.R.V. closed, Caraher & Ward having taken over the Ardee Road premises.

Jim was very popular with his workmates and was always there to lend a friendly ear.

Likewise, he was very well thought-of by management in Caraher & Ward. There was no task he would not undertake during his long career before retiring at the age of 72.

During his latter years, Jim became an avid gardener and was very proud of his little front garden where he would spend many summer days keeping the neighbours in chat.

In the winter, he would spend his days sitting by the window with his dog and trusted friend, ‘ Tara’, watching the world go by.

Jim fought his illness with great dignity and never complained to anyone. He will be sadly missed by his family who loved him dearly.

After reposing at the home of his daughter Eilish, his remains were received in St Mary’s Church, Knockbridge on Saturday, 17 February, where Mass was celebrated at 11am by Fr Paddy Rushe and Fr Gerry Campbell.

The readings were presented by grandsons, Kenneth Byrne and James Dullaghan; and the Prayers of the Faithful were read by grandchildren, Claire, Jason, Samantha, Kate and Gavin, and great-granddaughter, Shannon, who also served at the Mass.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2003; his brother, Jack (Blackpool), and by his sisters, May Nulty (Ardee) and Kathleen Connor (Haggardstown).

Jim is survived by his sister, Sr Josephine ( Washington DC); brothers, Kevin (Leeds) and Paddy (Kells); daughter, Eilish (Knockbridge); sons, Oliver (Bellurgan), Seán, Brendan, Fintan (Knockvbridge) and Aidan (Tallanstown); sonin-law, Micheal; daughters-in-law, Eileen, Maureen and Mary; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
