Big shave, wax and dye fundraiser

-

REALLY the only place to be on Friday night if you were out in Blackrock had to be Uncle Tom’s Cabin where a huge crowd had gathered specially for their Shave, Wax and Dye night to help raise money for local cancer charities, Cara, North Louth Hospice, Palliative Care in the Louth Hospice and local boy Shane Soraghan.

There were 20 people who had been growing hair on various parts of their bodies over the last couple of months and they included Maggie O’Hare, Michael Breen, Kevin Soraghan, Mark Lynch, Paul Mackin, David Brennan, Sam McArdle, Colin Lynch, Sean McArdle, Desmond Soraghan, Ciaran Grimes, Tommy-Joe Soraghan, Petesy McCaughey, Danny Farrell, Barry O’Hanrahan, Kevin Cleary, Joe Breen, Joe Coburn and Paul McCallion, who were left in the capable hands of Roisin Soraghan, who had a set of electric shears and cutting anything that was put in front of her.

I wasn’t too long in the door when I met up with Andy McElroy from Knockbridge and Dillon McCaffrey from Kilkerley, who were only out for a couple of pints, dropped in and said that if the price was right, Andy would happily get his beard shaved off for such a good cause.

After this I got talking to Karen Breen, who told me her husband Michael had been growing a very impressive beard since October and it was for the offs later on.

She was sitting chatting to her mum Kay Agnew from Dromiskin, who wanted to wish her son-in-law all the best on the night.

Next I met up with Barry Soraghan from the pub, who was chatting to Maggie O’Hare from Kilcurry, who were looking forward to an epic night and a cold one later on.

I than headed over for a word with Robert and Charlene Lynch from Heynestown, who were there to cheer Barry on and couldn’t wait to see all the faces after the shearing.

Making my way through the crowds I then got talking to Gerard Lynch from Greengates, who told me he wouldn’t be parting with any of his hair, but was there to support all the good causes.

Not too long later I caught up with Fintan Lynch, Roisin Soraghan, Kevin Cleary and Tommy Lennon.

my old mate Barry O’Hanrahan from Blackrock, who told me ‘ the hair must go’ and he was there on the night with MC Tommy Lennon, who was charged with getting as much money as he possibly could out of a very generous audience.

Heading for another table I then got a word with Martin and Maureen McArdle from Haggardstown, who told me that Martin’s two brothers Sam and Sean were for the chop later on and they couldn’t wait to see them getting it.

Another man who was going to feel the cold steel of the shears on his chin was Thomas Soraghan from Haggardstown, who was with daughter Grace and husband Emmet Byrne from Afton Drive and Aidan Little from Knockbridge, who told me ‘ that beard must go’.

Not too long later I headed over for a chat with Stephanie Whelan from Tallanstown, Siobhan Breen from Haggardstown, who were with daughter Joanna Breen and her friend

Erin Kearney from Dunleer, who said they couldn’t wait to see Joe getting the chop.

Making my way over to another table I then caught up with Joanne Farrell from Littlemills, who was there with Nicola Golden from Blackrock, who were there to cheer on Kevin Cleary originally from Mullingar but now from Blackrock, who was getting his head shaved.

Seated close by were Paul Neary from Haggardstown, Colin Bogan from Belfry Drive, Francis Bergin from Oaklawns, Danny Murphy from Riverside Drive, who were with Mark Lynch from Beech Park, who had been cultivating his beard since Christmas and was just about ready to be shot of it.

They were with Donna Evans-Murphy from Riverside Drive, John Broderick from Kingswood, Mark’s wife Louise Lynch from Beech Park and her parents Derek and Heather Curran from Haggardstown. Louise said she’ll be happy to get her clean-shaven Mark back, but admitted it was for four really worthwhile causes.
