A HUGE CROWD AT THE LIONS’ SENIOR CITIZENS DINNER

-

ON SUNDAY afternoon I headed for the Lisdoo, where the Dundalk Lions Club were hosting their annual Senior Citizens dinner and a huge crowd had turned out specially for the occasion.

I wasn’t too long in the door when I met up with club president Gerry Campbell, who told me they had invited groups from Men’s Sheds, Young at Heart Muirhevnamor and Redeemer, St Gerard’s Redemptorist group and Clans Lions Club Bingo along with many other Senior Citizens groups to enjoy a meal and have the afternoon on them.

I decided I’d better look to see who was there and first caught up with Teresa McEnteggart from Castlering, who was with Angela Conroy and Brigid Marry both from Knockbridge, who were really looking forward to the meal with their all their friends.

Next I got talking to the man with the give-away scooter, Kevin Doyle from Cedarwood Park, who was with wife Christina and kids Kevin and Ian, who were in great form and really looking forward to a lovely meal.

Beside them were another lively group who included Maureen White from Beechmount Drive, Mary Kerr from Saltown, Winnie McGee from Ashling Park and Helen Martin from Oakland Park, who all looking very well and ready for a good afternoon with all their friends.

Also in their company were Carol Conachy from Ashling Park, Ann McBride from St Joseph’s Park, Marie O’Brien from Dowdallshill and May Ashmore from Ashling Park, who just about ready to eat and were hoping there’d be some entertainment afterwards, although Carol already her evening mapped out because she was heading for the Sunday Club up in Oriel Park later on!

A special mention has to be given to Irene Duffy from Seafield Lawns, who gets the Argus every week and she was there with Veronica Byrne from Ballybarrack, Agnes Traynor from Seatown, Marie Foley, Maureen and Brendan Tuite all from Mountain View, who are with St Gerard’s and were on for making it a lovely afternoon.

Making my way through the crowds I then caught up with a pair of Clans Bingo Ladies, Peggy Carroll from Fr Murray Park and May Traynor from St Alphonsus Villas, who told me they were starving and couldn’t wait for the meal to be served.

Beside them I then got a word with Peadar and Mary Breen from Muirhevna, who were having a great time and were looking forward to a good laugh and a lovely meal.

Next I met up with Sheila Hamill from Carol Meade and Anne Fee from Kilkerley, who said it’s be nice if it was a meal and maybe a little bit of a dance afterwards.

I then headed over to a table where I met up with Dundalk Men’s Sheds chairman Gene Yore, who said he was delighted that ‘ the sheds’ had been invited to the meal and wanted to thank the Lions Club along with the Lisdoo for their hospitality. Gene was there with Seamus Crosson from Dublin Road, Joe O’Malley from Kilcurry and Terry Dillon from St Alphonsus Road, who was with his delightful daughter Louise Dillon from Oaklawns, who had the unenviable task of keeping an eye on the rowdies!

After this I headed over for a chat with Patricia Byrne from Castle Heights, who was having a laugh with Billy McCormick from Shore Road, who told me they were looking forward to the meal and a bit of craic with everyone there.

Next I met up with Joe Casey and Ann Kirk from Belfry Crescent, who were definitely up for making the best of the afternoon with everyone there.

Also at the table I then got talking to Marian and Joe McCrink from Willowdale, who were with Owen and Marie Hanratty from Mountain View, who were there to have a casual chat with some Russian diplomats, but before this they were having a laugh with Peter O’Neill from Annagassan and Brian Byrne from Castle Heights, who are all part of the Men’s Sheds possee and were there to make the best of the occasion.

Finally, before I departed I met up with my old friend Brigid Finnegan from St Joseph’s Park, who was with PJ Callan and they were all set for a great afternoon, a lovely meal and some fun with their friends.
