Ambassador welcomed to County Council
THE Hungarian Amabassador to Ireland, Mr Istvan S Palffy, was given a Cead Mile Failte by Louth County Council when he visited north Louth last Monday.
Accompanied by Louth County Council Arts Officer, Brian Harten, the Ambassador was guided through the award-winning Dundalk museum by curator Brian Walsh, before travelling to Ballymascanlon where he viewed the famous Proleek Dolmen.
The Ambassador also paid a courtesy visit to County Hall, where he met with members of Louth County Council and was presented with a ceramic cheeseboard made by local ceramicist, Sarah McKenna, along with a sample of Bellingham Blue Irish Farmhouse Cheese, which is produced locally by farmer Peter Thomas.
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Councillor Colm Markey said: ‘I was delighted to welcome His Excellency, Mr Istvan S Palffy to County Hall. He added: “We chose to present His Excellency with a locally made cheese board and a selection of local cheeses in acknowledgement of his interest in food and regional cuisine – he has written a number of books on food and wine in Hungary. I assured His Excellency that Louth would be delighted to greet many more visitors from Mr Palffy said hewas very pleased to pay a visit to Louth. ‘I am very interested in Irish arts and heritage and I very much enjoyed exploring the cultural richness Louth has to offer.’ He thanked Louth County Council staff for their hospitality and very thoughtful gifts.
