A 40-year-old woman who admitted stealing a scarf, has had the charge struck out after she made a €100 donation to Turas counsellin­g service.

Kathryn McKeown, Apartment 1, 12 Linenhall Street, Dundalk, took the scarf, worth €20, from Dunnes Stores in The Marshes shopping centre on 22 November, 2017. The item was recovered.

McKeown is unemployed, has six previous conviction­s, and is a recovering heroin addict, the court heard. hearing Amy Reenan (28) is not deemed suitable for the drugs court.

He adjourned the case to 13 June next. A probation report on the accused, of 6 Castle Park, Castletown Road, Dundalk, was before the court, and her solicitor noted it is ‘not very positive in terms of engagement’.

‘It says she’s not suitable for the drugs court,’ the judge replied.

Reenan previously admitted possession and possession for sale or supply of diamorphin­e at Dundalk garda station on 22 May, 2017.

She also pleaded guilty stealing a lady’s insulin pen and needle at the County Library, Roden Place on 6 November, 2017; and a further count of threatenin­g to injure a man with a syringe, believing it was infected, at Aghameen Park, Muirhevnam­ór on 17 April, 2017.

The defendant also admitted a number of shopliftin­g offences.
