Let’s have a boring meeting

-

THERE was some interesting comments made to me last week following the latest meeting of Louth County Council.

Those who hadn’t read reports of the meeting asked for details and what exactly had occurred, while those who read reports were somewhat entertained but equally frustrated at the ongoing sideshows which have been a regular feature of the monthly meetings.

You can understand this perspective, as the proceedings of the meeting makes good copy and good headlines from a newspaper’s point of view.

But you have to think that perhaps more boring, business-like meetings would be more productive for the County.

The worry is that the clock is ticking down to the next Local Elections, that the prospect of a General Election is never too far away given the current make-up of the present Government and that the Punch and Judy sideshow could remain the main act for some time yet.

Who is too blame for the break-down at the last meeting is not that important in the overall scheme of things, what we need is to move forward and tackle the issues that are important in the County.

Everyone has a responsibility in this regard, officials and elected members.

Let’s hope the April meeting will be boring and business like, without the restort to name calling and grandstanding.
