Mattock into final

MATTOCK RANGERS 0-10 ST PATRICKS 0-7

MATTOCK Rangers booked their place in the Paddy Sheelan Cup final thanks to victory over St Patricks in Collon on Friday evening.

The game was delicately balanced heading into the closing stages with the teams locked at seven points apiece. However, the Collon men produced a strong finish as they kicked the final three points through David and Adrian Reid to come out on top.

Mattock have been in excellent form already this season and this was seen as their toughest test so far in what was a repeat of last year’s decider, but they came through in impressive fashion to set up a meeting with St Mary’s in the decider.

It was a close affair throughout with St Pats taking the lead through Conor Grogan and they managed to hold the advantage throughout a first half that ended with them leading by 0-4 to 0-3.

However, the game turned in Mattock’s favour in the third quar- ter as they drew level just after the restart before kicked three further points without reply to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 after 40 minutes.

The Pats responded well to the challenge and pulled two points back before an Aidan McCann score with tied the game up with ten minutes remaining.

It was all to play for at that stage but Mattock managed to grab the initiative and crucially grabbed the next score when Adrian Reid fired over. Pats battled to get back into the game but David Reid landed the final two points to confirm his team’s place in the final.
