SSE AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

- JAMES ROGERS

FRIDAY night’s victory over Bohemians was the first time Dundalk have won a home match on Good Friday in the club’s history. You have to go back to Good Friday 2011 for the last time the Lilywhites won a game on the holy day. Back then Ian Foster’s side came from a goal down to win 2-1 away to Drogheda Utd in United Park. For many years in the early history of the club games were not played on Good Friday although there are examples as far back as 1937 of the club drawing 2-2 at home to St James’s Gate. Aside from Friday night, Dundalk have played three home matches on Good Friday this decade, drawing 0-0 with Shelbourne in 2012 and 2-2 with Shamrock Rovers in 2014 before losing 3-1 against Bray Wanderers last year. In the Stephen Kenny era Dundalk have traditionally struggled at Easter, drawing 2-2 with Drogheda on Holy Thursday 2012 and 1-1 away to Limerick FC on Easter Saturday 2015. The one exception was a 4-0 win away to St Patrick’s Athletic on Holy Thursday 2016. DUNDALK winger Michael Duffy has fired a warning to the rest of the league that he believes both he and his side can only get better in the weeks ahead.

Despite starting the season unbeaten and without conceding a goal, the Derry man believes there is more to come from Stephen Kenny’s side.

He is hoping to be a big part of that by contributing even more than he has already this season.

To date Duffy has four goals
