BAILIEBORO WOODVIEW CELTIC 1 2

WOODVIEW climbed into joint leadership of the second division of the North East League with this win that keeps them in the hunt for promotion with a game to play.

On an exhausting heavy surface that tore up from an early stage Redeemer took control with two goals after half-time by player manger Conor Macken and the prolific Barry Carr.

They were then subjected to strong pressure for a spell with Bailieboro forcing a string of corners and reduced the deficit to the minimum after 75 minutes.

But the visitors comfortably held onto their slender lead in the final ten minutes.

They were without regular goalkeeper Padraig Gorham and Kyle Carroll who normally plays in midfield deputised for him.

His defence afforded him great protection and he barely had a shot to deal with in the first 45 minutes which ended scoreless.

The visitors took confidence from that and went ahead when Gavin Gaffey who was the prime architect of both their goals went down the wing and crossed the ball for Paul McArdle to pull it back to the edge of the box for Macken to slot it home four minutes into the second half.

Gaffey also laid on the chance for Carr to make it two nil on the hour with another run down the wing and checked back to whip a delivery to the near post where Carr flicked it on and went in off the far post.

Woodview have one game to play which they need to win to secure an automatic promotion place. It is against fellow title and promotion contenders Hazel Lane who they leaped over with this win to become joint leaders. WOODVIEW: Kyle Murphy Dean Browne, Stephen Begley, Shane Taaffe, Daniel Mulligan, Gavin Gaffey, Caolon Dines, Conor Macken, Paul McArdle, Ray McCann., Barry Carr. Sub Niall Mackin.
